5 Day Itinerary For The Perfect Cornwall Staycation
Not jetting off this summer? We can't think of anywhere better for a staycation or UK holiday than Cornwall! We've put together a 5 day itinerary for the perfect Cornwall staycation - our favourite places to stay, eat and see in Cornwall...
Day 1 of your Cornwall Staycation:
Head for breakfast at Slice of Cornwall near Constantine (we recommend the Cowgirl Beans On Toast!) before taking a short drive over to Glendurgan Garden. Spend the day wandering through the lush sub-tropical gardens, down through the valley and laze the afternoon away on Durgan beach.
In the evening head to The Ferryboat Inn at Helford Passage for dinner (it's all about the fresh Cornish seafood here) and watch the sunset over the Helford River with a glass of something cold.
Stay: If you're camping or campervanning then we love Gweek Campsite or for something a little more plush try Hotel Meudon.
Day 2 of your Cornwall Staycation:
Today we're going to explore The Lizard! Start the day with a sea swim and breakfast on the beach at Poldhu Beach Cafe. If the weather is kind then spend some time on the beach soaking up the sun, or if the weather is a little more Cornish then take a walk along the coast path to Church Cove, Gunwalloe and along to Loe Bar and back (about 3 miles each way).
In the afternoon a must-see is the stunning beach at Kynance Cove. You can either walk down to the beach or just spy it from the cliff tops if you've already done the coastal walk this morning.
Dinner at The Witchball which is England's most southerly pub is a great spot.
Stay: One of our favourite campsites in Cornwall - Henry's - is the perfect stopover. Or for something totally unique spend the night glamping in an ex-Royal Navy helicopter at Haelarcher Farmhouse!
Day 3 of your Cornwall Staycation:
Have the most southerly breakfast in England at one of the two cafes at Lizard Point, while taking in the sea views. If you're lucky you might even spot some seals! Take some time to explore the coast path and before leaving the village don't forget to pick up some of the famous Ann's Pasties for a picnic.
Now you've been to the most southerly point of England, let's head to the most westerly point too! This afternoon you're off to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the UK - Penwith. Sennen Cove is the spot for this afternoon with its long beach and perfect views. Enjoy swimming, some beach time or take a surfing lesson. As sunset approaches head up the coast path and walk towards Land's End for perfect sunset views.
Grab some takeaway fish and chips from Blue Lagoon and enjoy them al fresco on the beach.
Stay: Camp at Little Bosanketh Farm or spend a cosy night at the 17th century Old Success Inn.
Day 4 of your Cornwall Staycation:
Today you're going to explore some of the fascinating ancient history of West Penwith, With over 700 ancient sites, you've got plenty to see but we've narrowed down a few of our favourites for you. First climb up Chapel Carn Brea which is England's first and last hill. Seven barrows are on the hill and you'll find two in good condition - an early Neolithic long cairn and an early Bronze Age entrance grave. At the top of the hill is also the remains of the 13th century hermitage chapel of St Michael of Brea which gives the hill its name.
Head off to spend the rest of the day touring and exploring Boscawen-Un stone circle, Carn Euny ancient village, Lanyon Quoit, Men-an-Tol and Chun Castle.
If you're staying in Treen the The Logan Rock Inn is a lovely place for dinner or if you're spending the night in Mousehole then you have plenty of options - from harbourside pubs to seafood restaurants.
Stay: Treen Farm Campsite for the views! Prefer a roof over your head? Then The Old Coastguard at Mousehole is the spot for you.
Day 5 of your Cornwall Staycation:
Hopefully the sun is shining and you can spend a perfect day on Porthcurno Beach, but if not then explore the incredible Minack Theatre and if you've timed it right you could even watch a show.
That's all folks! Time to head home, but we hope you had a wonderful time exploring our 5 day itinerary for a Cornwall staycation.
