Where To See The Best Autumn Colour In Cornwall
One of the prettiest times of year, autumn is here and we love spending our weekends making the most of the fleeting colours and wandering in the woods as the leaves gently fall around us. We've popped together our favourite spots to share with you so you can discover where to see the best autumn colour in Cornwall.
Tremayne Quay
This spot has beautiful waterside views as well as stunning autumn colour. Wander down through the creekside woodland, packed full of ancient oak trees and you'll pop out at the stunning quay on the banks of the Helford River. As it can only be reached by foot or boat at high tide it is an incredibly peaceful spot to while away an autumn afternoon.
Top tip: Don't miss a trip to Gear Farm Pasty Co nearby for arguably one of the best pasties in Cornwall!
Restormel Walking Trail
What could be a more perfect autumnal day out than a walk through the River Fowey valley and up to the ancient Restormel Castle. Packed full of history, you'll pass by Restormel Oaks which date back to the 1600's, Restormel Manor, the castle itself and some ancient Roman fortifications.
Top tip: Stop by Duchy of Cornwall Nursery for a cuppa and cake by the cosy log fire and to choose some plants to brighten your garden for the winter months.
Bodmin Moor
It might not be your first go-to for an autumn walk seeing as there are no trees, but we love a walk on the moor as you will discover plenty of surprising colour. The bracken turns copper, the heather is purple and the gorse bright yellow. With the gentle sunlight at this time of year the colours can really glow. Well worth a trip.
Top tip: For something a bit different try alpaca trekking! Walk an alpaca on Bodmin Moor with amazing views and a cute fluffy new friend!
Danescombe Valley
Parking at Cotehele Quay you can follow a circular walk up through the Danescombe Valley. Once you're back at Cotehele Quay head to the Edgcumbe Tea Rooms for lunch - we recommend their Cheese Afternoon Tea!
Top tip: Once your back at the quay, follow the signs up another valley for a short walk to Cotehele Mill where you can see flour being milled in the traditional way and even buy a bag to take home with you.
Kilminorth Woods
A nice, easy stroll through a nature reserve and one of the largest valley oaklands in Cornwall. Watch the leaves fall from the oak, birch, sycamore and chestnut trees, spot the squirrels gathering acorns and keep an eye out for kingfishers - this is a spot teeming with wildlife.
Top tip: When starting from the Kilminorth Woods car park, take the left hand path to see the Giants Hedge. This is the remains of an ancient boundary wall that extended from Looe to Lerryn in the Dark Ages.
Wrap up for autumn with our collection of coats, hats and scarves. Pack a picnic in a backpack and pull on a pair of boots. We've got everything to keep you warm and dry on your autumn adventures in Cornwall!
