What's On In Cornwall This Winter

We're all feeling a bit of cabin fever since Christmas - the weather has been so dreadful with back to back storms, dreary days and soggy skies. So let's get out the house and explore! There are plenty of fantastic events on, so we've rounded up the best of what's on in Cornwall this winter...

Tree Planting at Cotehele, 1st February

Start the New Year by helping to shape the future of the Tamar Valley. Pull on some sturdy boots and prepare to get muddy as you help the Cotehele team plant native trees for a more beautiful and healthier Tamar Valley. Free event.

Yoga at Trebah Gardens, every Monday from 3rd February

Enjoy an hour and 15-minute yoga session surrounded by nature, beautiful views down the garden to the Helford River and on warmer days it will be practiced outside in the sun.

Speak Cornish, 6th February

If you've ever fancied learning a bit of Cornish then pop into this free event between 2pm and 3.30pm at Kresen Kernow in Redruth. A relaxed session for complete beginners, no booking required. Free event.

Lizard Hikes - Cadgwith, 7th February

Starting at Cadgwith this hike will be guided by a walk leader and will give you the chance to stretch you legs along a 4 mile circular walk taking in the coast path and countryside. Meet some new friends, spot seals and choughs and blow those cobwebs away! Free event.

The Gruffalo, 14th - 15th February

A magical musical adaptation of the classic children's book, The Gruffalo. Taking place at the Hall For Cornwall in Truro, this is a wonderful chance to see a much-loved production that has toured the world.

Farming Fun Day, 15th February

Get up close with real farming machinery, cows and sheep! A day to celebrate farmers and let you enjoy some of the things that make farms tick.

Leach Pottery Take & Turn, 18th & 19th February

See a form thrown on a potter’s wheel and then adapt it into a shape of your design through the process of turning. A useful tea bowl or imaginative creature, what will you create? This drop-in workshop is for all ages to create without the pressure of firing an outcome while enjoying making with clay at your own pace. Free for residents of Cornwall. 

Bodmin Moor Archaeology Walk, 22nd February

If you love a long ramble across the moor and want to uncover some of the mysteries of this multi-time period landscape, this walk and talk will lead you across some of the moor’s most interesting prehistoric, medieval and post-medieval archaeology, especially Cornish hedges.

February is the perfect time of year, when the greenery has died back, to see the structures and stonework created by Bodmin Moor’s ancestors. Landscape Archaeologist, Peter Herring (also an occasional hedger) has a special interest in Bodmin Moor and can reveal some of the stories, secrets and indications that people throughout history left behind in their field boundaries, buildings and other sites.

Truro Cathedral Tower Tours, 1st March

See rarely-seen sights with a tour of the cathedral roof spaces, including, with this special tour, ascending the Victoria Tower to see views across Truro.
