Best Winter Walks In Cornwall

The weather might not be all sunshine and rainbows (well, maybe a few rainbows!) but winter is a great time of year to get out for a walk in Cornwall. The coast path is quiet, the weather is dramatic, the sea stormy and you get to warm up afterwards at a cosy cafe or pub with a log fire. Here are our best winter walks in Cornwall...

Portreath To Godrevy

This is our local cliff top stomp, so call in to our shop just outside of Portreath and say hi on your way! Parking in Portreath head up the coast path on the left hand side of the beach and follow the high cliffs all the way to Godrevy. You'll pass coves with shipwrecks, the famous Hell's Mouth cliffs and local's favourite - seal cove! After watching the seal's swimming and lazing on their beach, you'll have the choice of four different cafes to choose from with views out over St Ives Bay and Godrevy Lighthouse. Our fave is The Jam Pot.

Mullion Cove to Poldhu Cove

This a great short coast path walk and we've chosen it for one major reason - warming up with one of the famous hot chocolates at Poldhu Beach Cafe at the half way point! They are some of the most luxurious hot chocolates in Cornwall with seasonal flavours and piles of cream and chocolate, all with a view of beautiful Poldhu beach. Once you've warmed up the sugar high will have you blasting across the cliffs and back to your car. Mullion Cove is a stunning spot and a great place for watching stormy winter waves crash across the harbour walls (always keep a safe distance).

Zennor to Gurnard's Head

A bracing coast path walk with a cosy pub with a real fire at each end - perfect! Start in Zennor village and head past the Tinner's Arms (save that pint for when you get back!) and along the coast path towards Gurnard's Head. You'll have spectacular sea views, crashing stormy winter waves and if you're lucky you'll spot a seal or two. You can't miss the dramatic ancient cliff castle of Gurnard's Head - walk to the very end for the best views. Pop up the lane to The Gurnard's Head pub and warm up in front of the fire with some lunch before heading back towards Zennor and celebrating with a pint at the Tinner's Arms.

Port Isaac to Port Quin

A beautiful stretch of coast path, and since Port Isaac has been made famous on TV the best time to visit is in winter when it's quieter and easier to bag a parking spot! Enjoy the wiggly hillside streets of the picturesque harbour town and follow the coast path up and out (past the famous Doctor's house!) and up over rolling cliffs towards the tiny inlet of Port Quin which you might recognise from both the old and newer BBC Poldark series. Once you've made your way back to Port Isaac you'll find plenty of places to get cosy from cafes and pubs to fish and chips and even Michelin starred restaurants!
