The festive season is here and there are plenty of lovely events in Cornwall to get you in the spirit of things! We've rounded up some fun ones for you, plus a list of our favourite Christmas markets in Cornwall. Here's our guide to what's on in Cornwall this Christmas...
Botanical Christmas Decoration Workshop, 27th November
Take inspiration from Christmas at Trebah by creating a selection of dried botanical decorations. Join two of the experienced gardeners for a guided festive workshop using foliage collected from the garden to craft decorations for your tree. No experience needed and all materials are provided.
Redruth In Lights, 29th November
Welcome the start of the festive season with Redruth's annual lantern parade, wassail and Christmas light switch on!
An Advent Procession, 30th November
One of the most atmospheric services at Truro Cathedral in the calendar. It starts in complete darkness, reminding us of the sadness in the world; gradually the light dawns within the cathedral as more and more candles are lit and you hear stories of hope and light. The service includes traditional advent hymns and stunning music from the cathedral choir. All are welcome.
Heligan Night Garden, until 3rd January
Illuminate your winter with a season of wonder at Heligan Night Garden. An enchanting lantern experience amid the atmospheric Lost Gardens on select dates in November, December and January
Silver Band Carols, 6th, 13th, 14th & 21st December
Head to the beautiful National Trust manor house, Trerice near Newquay and listen to St Agnes Silver Band in beautiful surrounds. They will be playing a selection of festive tunes in the barn to get everyone in the Christmas spirit!
Christmas Wreath Workshop, 7th December
A seasonal wreath-making workshop at Boconnoc hosted by renowned floral artist Rebecca Stuart from The Garden Gate Flower Co. Forage in the abundant grounds of the beautiful Boconnoc House for leaves, ferns and foliage before creating your own beautifully festive wreath.
Santas On The Run, 7th December
Don your festive fancy dress and walk, jog or run this sponsored 2k at The Eden Project, with 4 Christmassy stops along the way. Make special memories this Christmas while raising vital funds for families supported by 3 hospices, including Little Harbour.
Pentille Carols In The Courtyard, 9th December
Get into the festive spirit with an evening of carols under the stars, as the brilliant Cargreen Choir leads a jolly Christmas sing-along in the courtyard at Pentillie Castle. Expect all your favourite Christmas classics, plenty of good cheer, and delicious winter warmers including mulled wine, hot chocolate, and mince pies available to purchase on the night.
The Ghost Stories of E F Benson, 14th December
We all love a good ghost story at Christmas! Head to The Acorn Theatre in Penzance for an evening of three classic ghost stories by EF Benson. The stories are: The Dance, In the Tube and The Confession of Charles Linkworth. Performed to the accompaniment of an original musical soundscape, all three tales conjure a chilling atmosphere.
Nadelik, 16th December
Based on the beloved children’s book ‘A Christmas in Cornwall’ by local author Craig Barr-Green, featuring original live music and songs by Matthew Thomason, Nadelik is a delightful, interactive festive show for children and their families, with live action, puppetry, and a heap of festive cheer. At Eco Park, Porthtowan.
A Christmas Carol, 19th December
Kernow Chamber Players presents a one-man dramatisation of Charles Dickens’ immortal work, A Christmas Carol, with live chamber music accompaniment. At Helston Old Chapel.
Christmas at Cotehele: Wassail! 20th December
Come and join in this annual Wassail to scare away the evil spirits from the orchard to ensure a bumper crop next year. Meet outside reception at 11am to pick up song sheets and hear the band warm up. The Oss will arrive at 11:20, be sure to look out for him! Fancy dress, pots and pans and musical instruments encouraged!
