Days Out Near Schoose
Our shop is near Portreath in Cornwall and we are so lucky to live and work in such a fantastic location - there is so much nearby to do! But even better, it gives our lovely customers a great day out when they visit us.
The Schoose team have rounded up their best days out near Schoose to share with you...
Portreath Beach
Impossible to miss this one out! It might be an obvious one but bear with us as we have a couple of top tips to share. Just a couple of minutes from Schoose you'll find Portreath Beach with it's little island off-shore, lovely golden sand and great surf. The usual suspects of beach walks, watersports (plenty of surf hire shops in the village) and sea swimming are all great, but what about some less well known spots? There are five sea baths dating from the 1700's cut into the rocks, explore and see if you can find them all and have a dip. When a storm rolls in it's a great place to watch the waves hit the harbour wall and watch the local surfers brave 'The Vortex' - a surf break that runs alongside the wall. And lastly, heading out of Portreath on the coastpath towards Godrevy you will shortly come to the hidden cove of Porth Cadjack. A small cove that you'll probably be lucky enough to have all to yourself! It's one for the brave as it's a tricky descent - take your time, be careful and watch out for the tides.
Mount Pleasant Eco Park
The eco park is a fantastic space with plenty on their events calendar. From live music, open mic nights, festivals, art sessions, markets, yoga, workshops and more, it's all going on here. Check out the Canteen for amazing food made using produce grown on their organic allotments.
Wheal Tye
Follow the coast path out to the right hand side of Portreath and you'll come to Wheal Tye, a fascinating piece of Cornwall's tin mining heritage. There are lots of structures left to explore plus the area is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest so there are some beautiful rare plants that thrive there.
The Track
All the biking fun you could wish for over five acres of bike tracks and jumps! From balance bike tracks for little ones to hardcore routes for the pro's, there is fun for all ages here. Plus a cafe and plenty of parking. If skateboarding is more your thing then head to Mount Hawke Skatepark just a few miles away.
Mineral Tramways Coast to Coast
This is our favourite of course, because it goes right behind our shop. It starts just down the road in Portreath and runs across 12 miles of countryside from peaceful woods to fascinating buildings from Cornwall's mining heritage. The trail ends in Devoran which is a beautiful creekside village with cafes and pubs to fuel you back up after your ride.
Pack everything you need for a day out in one of our Roka backpacks - we're head over heels for the limited edition Multistripe, but we have a rainbow of colours to suit everyone.
